TBC carried her Wizard of Oz purse to school
today - the same purse she convinced me to buy as part of her school supply stash 13 years ago to carry on the first day of kindergarten. "It will help me think," said the convincing 5 year old.
today - the same purse she convinced me to buy as part of her school supply stash 13 years ago to carry on the first day of kindergarten. "It will help me think," said the convincing 5 year old.Today she is starting her senior year and President Obama is speaking in their school gym at noon. Yep, ours is the school from where some say that the POTUS will be brainwashing our schoolchildren on C-Span.
My hopes for her on this first day of the last year in our extraordinary school system:
- She will remember that all school children deserve the education she's had.
- She will remember that even though almost half of her peers eat a free or reduced fee lunch, they are also considered one of the top 125 high schools in the nation. (Poor kids can be accomplished kids if given a little help.)
- She will be moved to bring a cynical and divided nation together so that we never again believe that the nation's president would use a speech to school children "to advance a political agenda" and/or we would ever have a president who would do so.
It's a cliche to say the years fly by. But the years fly by. Feeling a little shell-shocked today.

Can't belive "Libby-Doe" is a senior! The years really do fly by, considering she was only one when I met you all. I hope she has a great year and always remembers Obama speaking at her school today.
It's certainly a day to be wistful about how quickly time has gone. But you've raised an amazing young woman -- congratulations! I hope Libby has an amazing, unforgettable senior year.
What a special and remarkable day! All the best to TBC in her senior year.
What an amazing way to start senior year! May it be all that TBC, and you, hope and pray it will be.
Appreciate where you are..this is the first year I have no children going back to school of any kind and it felt very strange to be apart from that cycle. You and HH are good parents - celebrate the years past and ahead of you as the roles change.
