Bruce Reyes-Chow has been elected Moderator of the 218th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and one could make the case that this won't change a thing. And yet, I have every belief that this will indeed have a great and positive impact on our church. Bruce is a solid leader and this is a thing of God in my humble opinion. Check him out here.
My grand hopes:
That we will stop asking the wrong questions (e.g. "How can we bolster the Presbyterian church?") and start focusing like a laser on making disciples of all nations and being servant leaders in the name of Christ.
That we will care less about membership statistics and more about other kinds of results - like increasing our commitments, like visibly changing the way we live, like observing changes in our culture and our neighborhoods.
That we will say "yes" more than we say "no."
That we will dream dreams worthy of God.
I'm happy for Bruce but I'm happier for our church. I love our PCUSA but some important changes are newly possible (thanks be to God.)
