May God Have Mercy

Feeling a bit numb.

Just heard Ramesh Ponnuru on The Daily Show talk about his new book The Party of Death: The Democrats, the Media, the Courts, and the Disregard for Human Life.
Jon Stewart was respectful, attentive, and smarter than Ponnuru.

It was an ironic moment in light of tonight's news -- apparently verified by military officials -- that some of our Marines killed 15 civilians in Haditha, Iraq last November. 10 of the dead were women and children. One woman and her child were apparently in a position of prayer when they were shot execution-style. According to John Murtha (D-Pa), the Marines were out of control because of the pressure they are facing in this war.

No wonder the nation is obsessed with American Idol. Real life can be devastating.

Yeah, my husband and I watched that interview as we were getting into bed for the night. Afterwards, I found myself so wound up about it that I had to read for a while before even thinking about going to sleep. Oddly, the book on top of my nightstand stack is currently covering the author's jungle combat training in World War II, and it was actually calming compared to that Daily Show interview.

What American Idol isn't real life;-)
When will we ever learn that violence will not solve the problem of violence?
